Watches – The Importance of Practicality

3 min read

How many times have you wandered into your favorite department store, browsed the display cases and suddenly caught the gleam of the newest Geneva (or any other name brand) watch? The glorified band stares back at you and all you think about is how fabulous that colorful face would look on your arm. So, when you look at the big picture, how practical is this purchase?

Practicality comes in many forms, and in many ways, it is flooded by judgment. Our fashion (or greed ridden) priorities lead the way as we convince ourselves that this glistening icon will guarantee months of happiness. Setting priorities aside, let’s look at why being practical is the way to go (at least most of the time). Three elements need to be considered before you jump into the flashy yet beautiful watch purchase Business & Leisure Upgraded Stainless Steel Metal Solid Replacement B08S35S2FL.

1. Think Color. While this hot pink find would add flare to your arm, think about how it will fit in with the rest of the items in your closet. If you primary colors are greens and yellows, that little pink watch band really isn’t going to fit in – cute or not. Also, think about trends. Is this watch fabulous in a trendy way? Will it be outdated in several months (and most likely replaced by it’s newest version)? If so, it may not be worth it.

2. Think Theme. The second thing you need to do is identify any themes that exist in your closet. Are there workout clothes? Dress clothes? Suits? A watch is not only a device that will help you keep track of the time, but it is also an accessory. Where this new watch fit in? You need to have a clear picture of which outfit(s) will work with your new watch. Without this, you will end up buying a new wardrobe to go with the new watchband. If you picture it having a place, then you’re on the right track. On the other hand, if the designer accessory will be the sore thumb of your closet, do what is necessary to restrain yourself from the purchase.

3. Think Price. Considering that you’ve already factored in the elements above, ponder the price. If you know the fashion watch is going to fit in perfectly with your wardrobe, decide if the price is worth it. Will you wear it enough to get your money’s worth? Also, if you are on a tight budget, does it make sense to spend the money on a watch right now? This is not the time to use your “emergency only” credit card. If you think you will get value for you money, and you aren’t neglecting other financial obligations, maybe you can get that watch.

It just wouldn’t make sense to ignore the practicality of your watch purchase. If you make a poor choice, you will end up with an interesting watch, yet you will have no place to wear it. So, the next time you suddenly find yourself in the mood for a designer watch splurge, consider the practicality of your desire first.
